Overview
If
Fuerteventura looks like the Sahara, Lanzarote looks like the moon, (so they
say, I've not been). It has 300 volcanic cones over it and is covered with
solidified lava and volcanic rocks. In some places the temperature at only a
few cm's deep is already 100 deg C.
The
island also has some lovely beaches, even the tourist spots in Puerto del
Carmen or Costa Teguise are attractively developed, the quiet ones such as
Papagayo or Quemada are stunning and remote spots easily visited by boat .
There is
plenty to see here, many features of the island were thoughtfully developed
by the Canarian artist and designer Cesar Manrique and the enthusiasm he has
shown making the wonders of the island accessible to visitors whilst
protecting their natural beauty is a hallmark of his works. Check them out
at the Jameos del Agua, the Cactus Gardens, or just smile at his
enthusiastic treatment of something as mundane as a roundabout.

Papagayo
Don't actually think you can get any kind of keeled boat in there, but I always want to try. The anchorages are very close though |

Puerto Calero
One of the best known marinas in the Canaries, deservedly very popular. |
