Overview

The closest Canary Island to the Sahara, and showing every sign of it. If it wasn’t for turquoise sea everywhere you could think you were in the desert. This is a beach lovers paradise.  All in all the coastline of this island has more than 70 km of broad white sandy beaches, as the sea and the sand meet the clear turquoise water becomes a deeper and deeper blue as depth gradually increases.

Scattered down this coastline are a few resorts all featuring the laid back unhurried atmosphere characteristic of Fuerteventura.  Although the island is now protected from over development, real tourist spots can be found (if you want to) in the south around Morro Jable and Costa Calma.  Gran Tarajal, is a lovely unspoilt Canarian town half way down the coast and Corralejo retains its earthy charm in the face of increasing tourism.

Follow the near deserted roads around the island and they will take you through some of the most staggering scenery - from barren volcanic mountains to vast, deserted sand dunes.

Corralejo also has the best live bar music in the world (probably) in the Rock Island Bar. Go and see Eric Sijpestijn if you can.

Jandia beach

Lots of this sort of thing in Furerteventura

Sunset at Jandia

Fuerteventura

More than 80 km of coast line more or less just like this. You want to get away from it all for a bit?...

Bahia Sotavento

You can anchor here too!

Gran Tarajal

A picturesque Spanish town on the east coast. Acceptably off the tourist trail...

Corralejo beach

Corralejo is home to some of the best live music in the Canaries. Nice beach 2 mins from the marina too...
