Overview

For those yachties keen enough to venture this far west (and this far off the beaten track) El Hierro is a rewarding experience.

If you want to get away from it all the western most islands are the place to go. The tourist industry in both El Hierro and La Palma is pretty much undeveloped although both islands are beautiful and varied, with beaches, cliffs, forests and loads of extinct volcanoes.

El Hierro probably has the pick of the beaches, red sandy ones like that at Playa del Verodal and is also well known throughout the Canaries for the range of spectacular walks that there are through the green countryside, it has been compared (with reason)to the west coast of Ireland.
